Excellent post as usual! Signed up at scribd and after much messing around (and a new color ink cartridge) have managed to print an enlarged readable copy of the graph.

I like what you’ve done to complete/complement my list, which I haven’t revisited for a year, and perhaps I should update my post with your additions: Roses, Little Sadie, Sage and Spirit, BTW, HCS, Hey Bo Diddley, It Takes A Lot To Laugh, New Speedway, Reuben, That’s Alright Mama, (Unbroken Chain) … And maybe the instrumental Heaven Help The Fool ?

Aside from a very few you missed, it was tricky deciding what to include - I was perhaps over-generous in adding things (one performance of Little Sadie is hardly a revival), and I generally agreed with your omissions.
For instance, I didn't include songs played only with guests (like Black Queen or Mona); and the 2/12/89 How Long Blues didn't make the cut because Spencer Davis sang it and it's barely the same song as the '70 version.

But Heaven Help the Fool? That wasn't played before 1980.

Yeah, talk about being over-generous!
I was misled by some setlists that show a HHTF jam in 1974. (5/12,6/28,10/17)
And I concur about excluding songs sung only by guest singers.

Those 74's are possibly Sage & Spirit jams, no? I always thought the two sounded very similar, at least to my non-musician ears ...

On 10/31/80 the Dead played Heaven Help and Sage & Spirit side by side, so it's a good place to compare!

Anyway, the earlier confusion arose because many tapers in the old days used to call the Mind Left Body jam the "Heaven Help" jam....not only that, Feelin' Groovy also sometimes used to be called a "Heaven Help" jam....

Well, when you put it THAT way ... no, they really don't sound very alike at all. Thanks, though - appreciated.
